“Loving the Noumenon” is Roma Devanbu’s first solo show at Axis Gallery.

Devanbu’s deeply rooted devotional life is matched by a logical, practical, even skeptical side, creating a tenacious quandary. How can we love what we can not know exists? In “Loving the Noumenon” Devanbu presents drawings, paintings, sculpture and interactive installations which embrace, and invite engagement with, this paradox.

*Noumenon: In Kant’s phylosophy the Noumenon is the thing which cannot be known through sense perception. The Noumenon is “the thing itself”.

Roma Devanbu will be “Artist-in-Residence” at the Pence Gallery throughout October. Wednesdays - Saturdays,12 - 4 PM visitors watch her creative process as she constructs a large scale, 3-D, “Paper Temple” from suspended drawings and cut and folded paper. Visitors are  also invited to creative their own paper art which can be added to the visual prayer flag. Visit several times to see the installation grow or to sit and meditate in the “Paper Temple”.
